A Statistical Review of the Mulligan's Open 2026 field!

Welcome to the official statistical breakdown of Mulligan’s Open – Scotland’s NAF National, proudly hosted in the glorious homeland of cabers, kilts, and catastrophic dice rolls: Scotland.

With 121 coaches preparing to clash on the astrogranite, Mulligan’s Open stands as the largest Mulligan’s Open of all time and officially the largest Blood Bowl event in Scottish history. Nuffle has never had so many opportunities to laugh at us in one weekend.

Below is the full statistical breakdown of the carnage to come.

1. National Representation

Data Highlights:

• A dominant 57% Scottish contingent defending home turf.

• 43% of the field travelling from outside Scotland.

• Representation from 12 nations, showing that Mulligan’s Open now has global pull.

• England provides the largest foreign contingent at 20.8%, ensuring the Auld Rivalry continues on the Blood Bowl pitch.

Overview:

While the Scots hold majority control of the dugouts, nearly half the field has crossed borders — and in some cases hemispheres — to be here. Mulligan’s Open has clearly evolved from a national tournament into a truly international Blood Bowl pilgrimage.

2. Travel Statistics

Data Highlights:

• Nearly 45% of coaches are travelling to attend.

• Over 4 in 10 coaches are non-Scots.

Overview:

Blood Bowl coaches are not known for careful planning, yet 54 of them have managed international or cross-border logistics. This level of commitment suggests either incredible passion — or deeply questionable life choices. We salute both.

3. Star Player Usage

Data Highlights:

• More than 4 out of 5 coaches are trusting their own roster over hired mercenary legends.

Overview:

Despite the allure of big names and even bigger egos, the vast majority of coaches are putting their faith in core squad development. Either budgets are tight, or pride is high. Possibly both.

4. Star Player Selections

Total Star Player hires: 21

Data Highlights:

• Skorg Snowpelt alone accounts for nearly 29% of all star hires.

• The top two stars (Skorg and Ripper) make up 47.6% of all inducement signings.

• A strong lean toward Strength-based brutality over finesse.

Overview:

When coaches do open the treasury, they clearly prefer muscle. Skorg Snowpelt leads the mercenary charge, while Ripper Bolgrot continues his long-standing tradition of being paid handsomely to hit things very hard. Only a handful of coaches opted for agility or trickery stars — proving once again that at Mulligan’s Open, subtlety is optional but blocking is mandatory.

5. Skill Stacking

Data Highlights:

• Over three quarters of coaches avoided stacking skills.

• Only 22% opted for concentrated player optimisation.

Overview:

While some brave tacticians have chosen to build terrifying super-players, most coaches appear to favour balanced rosters. Or perhaps they simply enjoy spreading their inevitable casualties evenly.

6. Tier Selection

Data Highlights:

• The most popular choice is Tier 2 (30.6%).

• Nearly 46% of coaches selected Tier 3 or lower.

• A courageous 15.7% are running Tier 4 or 5 teams.

Overview:

Tier 2 clearly dominates selections with 30.6% of the field - mostly due to the high levels of Orcs selected. Early indications is that this race has been under tiered… time will tell. Otherwise Tiers 1 and 2 are well represented with 25% and 29% of the field selecting from these tiers respectively. Meanwhile, 19 coaches have embraced the underdog lifestyle — a decision that is either admirable or tragic. We will know soon.

7. Race Representation

Data Highlights:

• Orcs dominate at 14.9% of the field.

• Stunties are present: Goblins, Halflings, Gnomes, Ogres and Snotlings combine for 14 coaches (11.7%). Expect chaos. And fouling

• Not a single Black Orc roster — apparently even brutality has standards.

Overview:

The greenskins lead the charge, while Nurgle’s devoted followers bring an impressive second wave of pestilence. The diversity across 29 different races is great to see. No two rounds will feel the same — except when you play Orcs.

8. Skill Selection Meta

Total Primary and Secondary Skills Taken: 820

Data Highlights:

• Block + Guard account for over 53% of all skills selected.

• Block alone makes up nearly one third of all skills taken.

• Some interesting skill selections with someone deciding tentacles, steady footing, nerves of steel and dauntless were the right answers… I salute you for your boldness!

Overview:

The Mulligan’s Open meta is clear: reliability wins tournaments. Block and Guard dominate the landscape, reinforcing that fundamentals still rule Blood Bowl. Creativity exists — but it sits firmly behind not falling over and assisting violence efficiently.

Final Words

Mulligan’s Open 2026 is officially the biggest it has ever been — and the biggest Blood Bowl event Scotland has ever hosted.

To all 121 coaches: thank you for signing up, travelling far and wide, and helping make this event historic. Your support, enthusiasm, and questionable tactical decisions are what make this community exceptional.

We look forward to welcoming every one of you in one week’s time. May your dice be hot, your armour hold firm, and your turnovers be someone else’s problem.
